It’s Independence Day weekend. Let’s think about those who signed their names to the document declaring independence and remember that they knew that they and their families would be in grave danger. They understood that King George demanded absolute allegiance, and a vast ocean would not be enough protection from his wrath.
I’ve been posting bits about some of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and will continue to do so as I learn more about them...They deserve to be remembered! They did not just sign their names and go on with their lives as usual. Their fight for freedom along with many other patriots was just the beginning! In the coming weeks I plan on writing more about these brave men, and the danger they and their families were subjected to because they dared to sign their names on a document that declared independence from tyranny. They pledged to each other their Lives, Fortunes, and sacred Honor 🇺🇸
This statue resides in a small park across from Independence Hall in Philadelphia. “The Signer” was inspired by George Clymer, a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.
This bronze statue is 9-1/2 feet tall and “commemorates the spirit and deeds of all who devoted their lives to the cause of American freedom."
This Independence Day, and every day, let’s take some time to remember those that sacrificed so much for freedom. Let’s teach the next generations the value of individual freedom, so they won’t lose it. Let’s teach them about the brave men and women that knew freedom wasn’t free, yet still acted to gain it. Let’s teach them that preserving freedom is not always easy, but that once freedom is lost it is even more difficult to regain.
Read my latest column about those that valued freedom and please share it🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
